What browser are you using? Your timeline looks fine to me on Chrome/
WinXP. There is a known problem of labels wrapping with Firefox 3/Mac.
Firefox 3/Win is fine.

Another issue is that you're not using the current software, see
below.

At this point you'll need to change the source to do that. I or
someone else will be enabling this in Timeline at some point in the
next couple of months, but it's not done yet. An issue has been filed
for it.
Instructions for this were posted in this news group, search for the
msg.

If the timeline is working for you then that's good. No need to change
anything unless something isn't working.
To put it another way, I'm not quite following your comments about
using the "right" labelers.js. If it's working, that's good, why
worry?

There are two reasons why the labelers code didn't look the same as
what you've got:
1)You're using version 1 of the software.
2) Some of the wiki pages are not yet completely updated to be using
examples from version 2 of the software.

There are different ways to answer your question:
1) By using the MIT software, you don't have access to the latest
features or fixes. For example, the feature of using the mouse's
scroll-wheel is only available from the google code version. The fix
for Firefox 3/Mac will only be available on the google code version
(once it's done). Same for the forthcoming enhancement that will cause
links to be opened in new windows/tabs.

2) If and when the MIT server goes away, you will be forced to switch.
But there is no date for that. Maybe sometime in 2009, maybe later.

3) You also have the option of serving the Timeline libraries
yourself, from your own web server. You are already serving the js
file
http://www.weric.info/tl/js/timeline.js
-- it would not be a big deal to also serve the Timeline libraries.

Serving the libraries would just involve unzipping and installing the
Timeline library file. See the release notes in the release directory:
http://simile-widgets.googlecode.com/svn/timeline/tags/2.2.0/
and the install notes in the timeline-api file:
http://simile-widgets.googlecode.com/svn/timeline/tags/2.2.0/src/webapp/api/timeline-api.js
