as i muddled around with this a bit more...i figured it out. :^/

I hacked the stylesheet for the theme until i got it to do what I
wanted to do.

but I'm still curious and interested in tips on styling Exhbit.  Looks
like I could use the help! :^)

(my apologies in advance if you go looking for the page i previously
posted and it's no longer there.  i was going to have it up to
facilitate this discussion but now, with problem solved, i may remove
it.)
