It leads me to the thought that scrolling could lead to the problem. Does it work if you put the timeline not at the beginning of the page, but high enough so that no scrolling is necessary to see it? This would also be a hint that some javascript which calculates a position is involved... this is quite a hard thing to do correctly, and scrolling further complicates the fact.
