I think what you are asking for is the ability to load the timeline data from a source other than a static JSON file. The answer is yes. All the timeline/exhibit work I have done loads JSON data from a cgi script(Perl in my case, but it does not matter). What I have not done is to load one set of data into the timeline/exhibit and subsequently load new data into the same. I have seen posts that refer to doing so, but not done so myself.
