You might find that a *data-ex-color-coder* and *data-ex-color-key* will work for you. A good example of how they are used is in the table view of The Senate Example <http://simile-widgets.org/exhibit3/examples/senate/senate.html>. In that example the color of a row is determined by the party of the senator.
I have generally not used the conditionals provided by exhibit. Hope that is helpful....
