hi Suganya,
In short, sec allows for real-time monitoring and correlation of events
that appear in textual log streams, such as events that are received over
syslog protocol from other nodes. If you want to see some introductory
examples which outline few essential capabilities of sec, then I would
recommend to read the introductory section titled "Description" in the sec
man page (that's the official documentation):
http://simple-evcorr.github.io/man.html#lbAD
As for integrating sec with nagios, John Rouillard has authored several
presentations on how to combine those tools. When googling today a bit, I
found the following slideset:
http://www.cs.umb.edu/~rouilj/sec_nagios/nagios_sec_bblisa.pdf. Although it
considers older version of Nagios, it might nevertheless provide some ideas
for integration. Since almost 10 years ago I did few things with sec+nagios
myself, I seem to recollect that one had to set up passive service checks
which allowed to submit data into nagios in a fairly straightforward way.
kind regards,
risto
