Same problem with ubuntu 12.04 freshly installed and HP Officejet 6500. Two years that we have this issue.

Here are the steps to reproduce: 1. Set Document -> Preferences -> Page Size to "Legal" from "Automatic". 2. Place a Legal page in the sheet feeder. 3. Select Scan -> "Single Page" or "All Pages From Feeder". 4. Notice that the bottom of the page is cut off once the scan is complete. I would expect that a full Legal page would show up after the Legal setting is chosen without the bottom cut off.
