Description changed to: The scans from my Canoscan N650U USB scanner are too light. I have tried various settings for brightness and contrast but these have no effect. I used to have an HP ScanJet 4C SCSI scanner that worked great and I could adjust the brightness & contrast to my heart's content. The HP's power supply has died however, leaving me with just the Canon. I can adjust the brightness and contrast fine using xsane. I was using Simple Scan 3.22.0. I then built and installed 3.23.3 where I am now.
