Simplistic Meditation Group's 1st Posting Rule (initiation of)
Upon reviewing posts over time, it has become clear that some posts do not move the purpose of the group forward. On many spiritually oriented sites, the norm is sharing in terms of sharing every goodie that one finds on the Internet...other people's writings, books, movies, you name it. It has always been outside this group's purpose to post such things, and yet it has been allowed in order to not censor people from sharing. The purpose of the group is to facilitate members finding their OWN altar of the true self within. Posting things that reflect that inner voice and yet are not one's own words per se, is acceptable to a point. The point is when this is basically all the person posts...which then sets that posting outside the purpose of the group. Still, it has been my purpose to let these things be free and unmoderated. The group is still an unmoderated group in the sense that it has not been set to moderated. This means that I (altarlight) do not review posts before they reach the membership. However, in the future, if posting is continually outside the group purpose, the member will be notified and their posting privileges suspended until communication between myself and the member has occurred by private email or other means. I post things that do not pertain to Simplistic Meditation itself directly, and about organizations whose work contributes to people discovering Simplistic Meditation (although not necessarily by that name or in any way associated with it). One such organization is the Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP), of whose newsletter I am the editor. Therefore, it makes sense that a member may see this group as a viable forum in which to post a lot of political causes and issues. It may be that I have even done this in the past. However, when such things are posted, I take a look at web addresses or organizations posted about...and if I find a serious question about the desirableness of such a site or organization, I will take action to clarify what that site or organization is about, and perhaps stop a member from posting altogether, and remove their posts. If I do this, I will notify the member and may solicit email communication to clear up whatever questions I have...although this is not required for me to do. Such activity, site, or organization has posted in this group, and such investigation is pending as of this post...and actions have not yet been taken and will be dependent upon the result of such communications as mentioned above. If anyone on the list feels this is a problem, feel free to email me OFF the list pertaining to that discussion, (as it will be deleted if posted to avoid making an argument out of what has been deemed a necessary action). Additionally, there has been consideration being given to closing the group altogether, as its norm is non-participation in any way, nevertheless according to the group's purpose since 1999. If you have an opinion about such action of closing/removing this group in the near future, please let me know. This discussion is germaine to this group and may be freely posted, or you may contact me directly by email, or instant messenger. (contact information below) Another course of action may be (in the future) setting a requirement that members post something now and then, and members not posting after a long time, and after being requested to do so, may be deleted from the group. BECAUSE....this is not a join and listen only group....sharing love is about communications to AND from members, and looking to spirit as communion from which the ideas shared arise. No need to control others per se, but if the group is not benefitting people, there is no reason for membership. If the group is not meeting the purpose of assisting people to access spirit within, then the group list-serv itself has no purpose at all. This discussion is also germaine to this group and may be freely posted, or you may contact me directly by email, or instant messenger. (contact information below) Anyway, both of these courses of action are under consideration. Previously closing the group was considered on more than one occasion, and it remained open upon the request of the membership. However, after such leaving the group open, the activity and participation remained about the same, except for very short spurts of activity. If no response at all is heard regarding this notice, the group will be closed.
