Thanks Chris, Ron, and Alan for the input.

I ended installing OS 9.0 from the CD, then downloading the update to OS 9.1.  It 
turns out, the update will not run on that hardware (it requires an original 9.1 CD).  
I then downloaded the 9.04 update and it installed fine.

For unrelated reasons, I never actually had a chance to swap the new machine into 
action so I can't comment on it's stability yet but it seemed fine for the 15 minutes 
I was playing with it after the installs.
