This is the second time this matter comes across. Although it is back to normal now, I only know that I need a 'logical' answer to it.
About 4 weeks ago, this porblem came up for its first time, One of the user can not check her email, and she was the only one had the problem. So first thing I did was to fire up the webadmin but found nothing worng, then I used Communigater from the server itself, still found nothing worng, well, as my 7600 was running very normal: plenty of ram and space hanging in there, so I thought reboot it anyway and see what happened. After the reboot, I had a bigger problem: Now NO ONE could access his account anymore and the server started to freeze after 2 minutes running, it kept on like that everytime I restarted my 7600 afterwards. At that time many things came across my head and I chose to unplug the ethernet cable then reboot the server again for a start. This time, server didn't freeze anymore, but then SIMS wasn't running in this situaiton without a network connection. So I decided to "Restart My Old 10Base Hub", put the ethernet cable back to the 7600 again, reboot, running SIMS as I usually do, and guess what! It was back to my beloved mail server again, like nothing wrong ever happened before, everyone could access their account after that. Today very same situation happened again like the first time, only I got 2 users complaining can't download their email. I followed the same routine as above and I found they both have a large size of email(s) waiting - over 55MB! which is not normal in their case, and I suspect it was from the same sender whoever he/she was. This time, I went straight to restart the OLD 10 BASE HUB and again, everything was back to normal and they both can downlaod the large emails fine, just like that, I didn't even have to restart my SIMS server. Actualy later I found there were a third person recieved this monster email, but she got lucky, nothing went wrong with her account. I can understand a 55MB email might take too long to download, so long that each victim has been waiting over that 60 second period to download, so they never successed. Fine, I can live with that, but why all I had to do was to restart the old hub? and in the first time after rebooting the server, why things went totally crazy from initially only one account had the problem? So to completely solve the problem, shall I go out get a second hand heavy-duty 10Base hub like those big rack-mountable from 3Com or Intel? On the bright side, it's shown my SIMS box was trustworthy! ;-) but I just really really need this missing piece of puzzle, would anyone please give me a clue? ############################################################# This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
