I have manually blacklisted a bunch of open proxies that were (OK, still are) trying to spam one domain that I host.
Some people advise against manual blacklisting owing to the fact that manual lists tend not to be updated often and one runs the risk of a manual blacklist containing IPs that have long since stopped spamming or being used by spammers (open relays and such). At the same time, the domains I host are not likely ever to receive legitimate email from Pacific Rim countries or any non-U.S. countries, for that matter. So it is tempting to include on my manual blacklist the list from: the UXN blacklist <http://www.uxn.com/support/ip-blacklist.txt>. I used to copy/paste the blacklist from: The Spamhaus Project <http://www.spamhaus.org/sbl/sbl-list2.lasso> but I'm told that this is included in relays.osirusoft.com. So... what are the pros and cons of manual blacklisting? What kinds of listings does your manual blacklist contain? Pros: faster than a lookup; can target specific nuisances (such as the dictionary attacker pounding me for days on end); Cons: More likely to contain stale data; ############################################################# This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
