This all got me thinking about something that I was looking at a few months
ago. After knocking the dust off, I found something interesting. SIMS *WILL*
accept mail addressed user%domain@[IPaddress] or user@domain@[IPaddress] if
IPaddress is in SIMS' client host list - even if it's its own address. And
when it does, you see that "will be relayed to a client" message.

Now in my case, that address is actually the address of the NAT router which
passes all port 25 traffic on to SIMS (the internal address of the SIMS
server is 192.168.1.3) it seems to go into an infinite loop since it want to
treat "user@domain" or "user%domain" as the username and keeps relaying it
to itself. Finally, it concludes it's seen the message too many times and
bounces it.

More interesting, I get that same "will be relayed to a client" if I send to
user@domain@[192.168.1.x] where x is any number other than 3. When I make it
192.168.1.3, I get "we do not relay". All of 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.255 is in
the Client Hosts list.

So, it looks like user@domain@[IPaddress] is enabled in SIMS as a poor-man's
routing to a client host but SIMS is smart enough to recognize when that's
tried to its own address. But that also makes me think the problem Paul is
having shouldn't be happening. Yet based on what he's saying, somewhere the
@[IPaddress] is getting stripped off and the mail is getting relayed.

I'm not sure what, if anything, this has added to the discussion. :-(
