I'm on a DHCP connection, so a lot of mail servers treat me as a blacklisted "dialup' account and refuse mail from me. I'd like to configure SIMS to send outging mail via my ISP server, but that server requires authentication.
Is there any way to send mail from SIMS to a server that requires SMTP authentication?
Note that I have looked into getting a static IP address, unfortunately my ISP (a cable provider) does not offer them. DSL service is not available at my location.
Just curious, your provider requires authentication even if you are sending from within their own subnet or IP range? I can understand SMTP AUTH if you are dialing in from another provider, but if you are on their own network they should not require authorization; it seems like a waste of bandwidth. Most of the others on this list are more experienced than me so they will probably be able to explain it. Sorry I don't have a helpful answer for you.
Yes, that's correct. http://www.rogershelp.com/help/content/how/email/index3.shtml

SMTP Authentication Should be ON. This will allow you to send mail. If you are asked to enter a username and password, enter the same ones used to download mail.
