but almost exactly 10,000 total messages blocked once I throw in my (postfix) .pif and helo restrictions:
What do you do, have postfix set has a mail relay to SIMS?
Nope, I switched from SIMS to postfix.
So postfix is your outside accepting SMTP point, it then filters the mail and sends good stuff on to SIMS to delivery to POP accounts?
You could do something like that I guess, though it seems redundant and unnecessary to me.
Sounds like something I might want to look into myself. I've never used
postfix before, it is tough to setup and configure? (I have some sendmail
experience)
It is much much much harder than SIMS and much much much much easier than sendmail.
At least in my experience. Bill, otoh, is a sendmail monkey, so he's used to dealing with cf files that look like they were typed by an infinite number of monkeys<1>
<1> someone once theorised that an infinite number of monkeys would produce the collected works of Shakespeare. The Internet, alas, has disproved that theory.
