This is more of a DNS question, but still...

I initiated a transfer of a domain from VeriSign to godaddy, and had to call NetSol to get an authorization code. As expected, I got the "why?" question and I explained that it was in part to protest VeriSign's Site Finder service. The techie on the other end explained that VeriSign just sold NetSol (today) and that soon, NetSol would be back on its own as a registrar, free from the VeriSign albatross around it's neck.

So I went to read about this a bit:

http://news.com.com/2100-1025_3-5092316.html

and I'm confused. VeriSign is selling NetSol off as a registrar, but keeping the .com and .net database. What does this mean? Just when I thought I has some understanding of how dns works...

If VeriSign keeps the database, and restarts Site Finder (which is planned), it won't make any difference that NetSol is my registrar, correct?

Contrary to many stories out there, I've never had any problems with NetSol/Verisign from a technical standpoint. Cost is an issue, but you can pretty much get around that with a phone call threatening to move to another registrar - they start negotiating real quick.

So, now I'm wondering why go to the trouble of switching, given my lack of problems in the past.
