I thought I'd report success on my attempts to get MMS, an inexpensive Webmail client for SIMS, to work on my OS X Server machine.
MMS is available here: http://www.magix.com.my/mms/ There has been no update for 2 years, but its programmer is still available for questions on the designated mailing list. The setup instructions on the web site are for WebSTAR. For using MMS on OS X, here's the differences: 1. You need ACGI Dispatcher from http://www.sentman.com/acgi/ I had also tried to use Apple's ACGI Enabler instead, but that I could not get to work, since I was not able to set up the link to MMS with it. 2. Install MMS anywhere. Put ACGI Dispatcher into the "CGI-Executables" folder inside "/Library/WebServer". Launch it and do the following. (the following are the words from the MMS author, LiangTyan Fui): - in ACGI Dispatcher, go File -> Configure Suffix Mappings... - click "New" - type ".mms" in the Suffix field (without the quotes) - select "launch as suffix" in Action. - click "Choose App" when the button appear, locate the MMS application. - click "Save". - and click "Save" again if need be. - DONE! Now at the browser, type: http://yourhostname.org/echo.cgi.mms If it works, now try login with: http://yourhostname.org/req.login.mms Once this works, follow the normal instructions for MMS. Two more notes: 1. After having added my Host settings, I needed to restart MMS (by clicking on "soft inits") before I could enabled accounts from SIMS for Webmail. 2. What does not work is uploading of attachments via Webmail, but I can live with that. It costs you $25 for MMS and another $15 for ACGI Dispatcher, but then you have quite a nice Webmail solution. Not perfect but worth the money. And who knows - the MMS author indicated that he might be inclined to do some more work on it if there's enough interest. So, if you like to use MMS, why don't you join the MMS mailing list and voice your needs. And submit your payments once it works, of course :) Enjoy!
