In an effort to keep to the high ground and to not be unduly abrasive, my
spam reports use stock copy, which I almost never edit or add to. The only
reason I'd ever change the report message would be to adjust it to fit the
facts of special cases. My reporting routine is a semi-automated process
that uses a script to parse the relay address out of the spam's headers and
compose the report to the ISP abuse address.

My standard report goes like so:

--start spam report--
One of our users received the spam message quoted below, which was relayed
by a host on your network at [ip_address]. Please take whatever action you
think may be appropriate to enforce your TOS/AUP. In the meantime, the
offending host may be blacklisted on our mail server, as we do not wish for
our servers to talk to open relays, open proxies or other spam sources.

Thank you for your efforts to maintain the efficiency and usefulness of the
internet as a communication medium.

Offending Message
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
[the spam message w/ headers goes here]
--end spam report--

The second paragraph is an attempt to foster a spirit of cooperation in
fighting spam. I doubt that I submit anywhere near the volume of spam
reports that Bill does but, so far as I know, I've never been targeted for
retaliation as a result of reporting spam to the operator of networks
through which it's been relayed.
