If you want to simply bounce mail sent to 'blackhole', don't create a real account for it and add a line to your router:
<blackhole> = error
If you want (need?) to have a real account, keep the 'blackhole' account and continue to have it discard incoming mail. Enable 'Send Auto-Replies' for the account with some simple message text explaining that nobody reads mail sent to it so please don't bother. This might be the best solution from the standpoint of not pissing off people replying to your Tango-generated messages because you can give them a politely worded explanation rather than simply bouncing their messages as if they were spam.

These are excellent suggestions and I thank you for them. In an effort to see what worked best I created a bunch of text files and dropped them into the SIMS submitted folder. I am now more confused than ever because contrary to my previous assertions:
1) SIMS is quite happy to send mail with a fake FROM
2) SIMS is quite happy to send mail with CRLF line endings!! (My Tango scripts would only work with CRs)
However, many of these solutions lead to clutter in the SIMS queue or the possibility of mail loops or some other effect I don't like. For example, the auto reply works fine, but there is no way to quote the sent message, so the sender has to do SUBJECT matching. I personally hate bounces that strip out the message body, so I shouldn't send them!
Using a non-existent account to send FROM causes problems if the outbound mail is bounced. It gets bounced to a non existent account, so SIMS sends a bounce and so on.
All things considered, I have decided to add a dirty big warning message to the outbound mail saying that replies are discarded, so please forward your complaints to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Blackhole is now simply discarding mail, which keeps the queue free of dreck and prevents any type of loop. Now I am going to go back and beat upon Tango to see why the files with CRLFs it created were being rejected by SIMS.
