I sent email to several Earthlink subscribers and got this response. I have never had this problem before (send out a newsletter about once a month).
All my Earthlink subscribers failed.
Any idea what's going on? Is my DNS mis-configured? I use DynDNS.org.
Your problem is most likely the IP you are using and/or reverse DNS that looks bad. It's *possible* that this is an actual problem at Earthlink, but that's doubtful. It is far more likely that someone else had that address recently and did something bad with it, or that Earthlink has decided (as I did quite some time ago) that the useless wastes of space calling themselves DSL.net were too tolerant of persistent spammers on their network and just blacklisted all of 66.95.0.0/16, OR that rDNS like ' 66-95-60-197.client.dsl.net' just smells too much like the sort of place that compromised Windows spam zombies lurk.
In the final analysis, DynDNS and similar services are reasonable choices if you only need to receive mail and do web service and don't mind sending out through your access provider, but that service simply cannot address the reasonable and useful ways that people use to guess at whether your machine is likely to be a source of garbage mail. Where you are network-wise is a slum. Having lived in similar places in the real world, I assure you that FedEx and pizza delivery guys do not care that you personally are not operating a crack-house: they still won't provide service if they believe it likely that your neighbors are doing so. Email is not unlike that. It is even worse in your situation because the IP address you are using now could have been a source of garbage recently and may be again in the near future.
