Hi Samuel,
What if a.com make the DNS query for SRV records for b.com and it fails?
Do u mean to say that DNS lookup will not fail in any case or if it
fails call will be dropped without it being forwarded to next default
proxy which can again do DNS lookup?

Vivek

Hi!

There is no default proxy, when you make the DNS query for SRV records
for b.com you receive all the possible hostnames responsible for b.com.
Due to the parameters in the SRV record, you can make load balance
between them or make one of them act as primary and the rest backups.
The SIP UA will try to contact in the specified order all these
hostnames and if all of them fails, the call is not forwarded. *You* can
configure *your* UA with local policy in case this proceeding fails, but
it is up to *you*.

I recomend you again to check the RFC 3263 that explains it in details
and with examples.......

hi Vivek,
Can you point to the document which describes the
"Default Proxy" forwarding case in your below example, where a proxy
server of A fails to get the Proxy of domain B through a DNS query . and
therefore forwards it to a *default proxy* !

Is every proxy configured to route calls to a *default proxy* when it's
DNS lookup for the Request URI's domain or lookup for the the target of
the Request fails ?

In that case, how good are the chances of the Default proxy Succeeding
?

Can someone please explain !

Cheers.

If [EMAIL PROTECTED] is calling [EMAIL PROTECTED] Proxy of a.com will do DNS look up to
get
the IP address of Proxy of b.com.
IF proxy A fails then will forward it to next default proxy. And that
proxy will do DNS lookup.
IF proxy A succeeds then INVITE will be forwarded to b.com proxy.
Proxy
of b.com will search it in its Location server and then it can decide
to
route the call to the person ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) or to next internal
proxy ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).

My question is how a.com identifies the B''s proxy? a.com only have
the
B's
IP/domain name. Will DNS look up will provide IP address of the
proxy
where B's connected?

Hope the question is clear. May be too basic.....

Hi Suresh,
I do not fully understand your Question,
If you are considering the case of

[EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED]

a ---------------> b , a calling b.

a.com proxy can perform a DNS lookup and find IP of b's proxy.
and then send the request there, which can forward the request to B ,
based on B's registration in the particular domain.
Maybe there are other ways also, which i'am not sure of.

refer Rfc 3261, Alice and Bob example, if the above is what the
scenario
you are looking for !

Cheers.

Hi All,

A basic question.

1. if the reciever and senders are in different domain, the proxy
server
sends the request to a different proxy server supporting SIP. how
does
the
proxy know which proxy is the reciever connected to ?? is the
request
broadcasted ?

Regards,
