John,
I checked my local copy and then checked the copy of 3265 on the IETF
web site (Dated June 2002) has no section 3.11 and the section on
Rate Notifications is 4.4.10.

***************************************************************************************
4.4.10. Rate of notifications

Each event package is expected to define a requirement (SHOULD or
MUST strength) which defines an absolute maximum on the rate at which
notifications are allowed to be generated by a single notifier.

Each package MAY further define a throttle mechanism which allows
subscribers to further limit the rate of notification.

RFC 3265 SIP-Specific Event Notification June 2002
*****************************************************************************************

So the only reference I could find in 3265 states that the event
package will define rate of notifications, can you re-confirm your qoute
and section it appears in ?, sorry !.

My comment on the qoute "Notifiers SHOULD NOT generate NOTIFY requests
more frequently than once
per second." is that limiting rate of notification makes sense per notified
UA. So if
a UAC, perhaps a server with a 100 subscribers, could fire off many
NOTIFYs to different subscribers simultaneously. So a NOTIFY to all 100 of
these subscribers in less than a second, but each subscriber only receives the
1 and therefore does not breach this stipulation. Did that make sense ?.

Subject: [Sip-implementors] Query on RFC 3265(Notify)

Hi all,

I have query based onthe RFC 3265.In this RFC section 3.11.Rate of
Notifications
Specifies that the "Notifiers SHOULD NOT generate NOTIFY requests more
frequently than once per second."

If i am understanding correctly then a notifier will send one notify for
one second.(for example if a notifier have to generate the 100 Notifys
then it will send the each notify for each second.(for 100 sec)).

The RFC states only for the Peak Period?

Thanks in advance

John A
