Why is this being discussed on sip-implementors? As best I can tell it has absolutely nothing to do with sip.

You summed the issue up exactly. The UA does have the info, from the
INVITE, so I was trying to determine whether or not the limitations you
mention apply. I was thinking would it be 'acceptable' to send the
information in the 1st off cycle no matter what the length of this cycle.

John,
Which standard are you referring to with the 500 ms?
According to the Interface spec GR-30-CORE, the CID (including name) data
transmission shall not begin until a silent interval of at least 500 ms has
elapsed after the end of the first power ringing pattern, and shall end at
least 200 ms before the start of the second power ringing pattern. But that
is a specification that was making allowances for transients created by
circuit switches and trying to make that work smoothly with analog CPE. So
I am not sure why you have to live by the same limitations on your UA.
Don't you capture the data first and then send it to the UA?

I hope I did not confuse you further.
Hala

John,
You should send the CID between the rings, in the first off period that is
long enough the send the CID according to the standard.

Subject: [Sip-implementors] Distinctive Ringing with CNAME or CID

I am looking at implementing Distinctive Call Ringing (DCR) on my user agent
via the Alert-Info header but I am confused about it's interaction with
CNAME or CID services. From what I know a typical, USA, ring cadence is 2s
on / 4s off and the CID information is sent in the first off period, but the
standards documents I have read seem to indicate there needs to be at least
500ms between the sending of the CID and the next ring cycle which does not
seem to fit in with the Bellcore distinctive ringing cadences which could
for example start with 400ms on / 200ms off etc. The standard ring cadence
specified above fits these standards. Does anyone know if the CID is just
sent in the 1st off cycle no matter how long its duration ? Thanks John
