Unfortunately, there are more choices than that:
- SUBSCRIBE/NOTIFY
- implicit subscriptions
- explicit subscriptions
The application framework document discusses the overall concept:

work-05.txt
The KPML specification describes a markup language for representing digits:

You can use one of 3 choices:
- In-band (risky if using low bit rate codecs),
- RFC 2833 for out-of-band but still carried over RTP, or
- SIP INFO method for completely out-of-band

Subject: [Sip-implementors] DTMF
Hi all,
Can somebody please help me out on how to send DTMF signals using SIP.
I
have a requirement where after playing a voice prompt user should say yes or
no by pressing the digits. If anybody can help me in this scenario.
Thanks in advance.
Santosh.
