Hello,

I've been looking at XCF-1560 (
http://track.sipfoundry.org/browse/XCF-1560 ) and XCF-2355 (
http://track.sipfoundry.org/browse/XCF-2355 ) and have been looking
around to see if I can find a place to start implementing these. I've
seen three places where to start, so here goes:
1. Under Devices -> Network Parameters, there is an option to add NTP
server. I see that this server is propagated to devices and is probably
sent as part of their configuration. Am I correct? Shouldn't this NTP
server have any impact on the locally defined NTP server, if one exists?
Or, better yet, if there is a local NTP server, shouldn't this be
inserted automatically in the DB? Anyway, would this be a place where
to put the time settings, or is this too hidden. Or should NTP be
removed from network parameters and added to a more general System ->
Time Settings ?
2. I've seen the concept of System -> Locations. This is not yet
documented, but I've seen that it was introduced by
http://track.sipfoundry.org/browse/XCF-1440 . So the primarily goal of
Locations seems to be the administration of the HA System. But could
this concept be extended to include places where no server is present?
And could devices, users , devices group and users group belong to
specific location(s)? This would seem like a very nice way to organize
things, although it's not that different from groups. Even more would
allow a few settings based on location like time settings, and I'm sure
a few others. Also, I've been following the (very interesting)
discussions around http://track.sipfoundry.org/browse/XECS-415 and I've
been thinking that this would also be a nice way to prioritize gateway
selection.
3. A third place where to put time setting would be device groups. This
would require a default group added which would be configurable with NTP
server and time zone.

So which on would be better? Please comment.

A few other thins:
- On XCF-1560, because of http://track.sipfoundry.org/browse/XCF-2427 ,
Damian commented: "The UI should also display the current date/time".
Should the time be displayed in the header/footer throughout the
interface, or only in the time configuration panel?
- On XCF-1734 ( http://track.sipfoundry.org/browse/XCF-1734 ), a
duplicate of XCF-1560, Damian posted the question: "Can someone comment
if changing time while sipx services are running will be OK. I suspect
CDRs will become meaningless. Anything else?"...
- XECS-1194 ( http://track.sipfoundry.org/browse/XECS-1194 ), another
duplicate of XCF-1560 asks for the setting of time from the config
server. With the new changes taking part in sipXsupervisor, will this be
achievable? Is there a way to tell sipXsupervisor to run a certain
command under a specific user? I see that now, for example, sipXvxml
runs as root, but this is achieved by setting the special setuid
permission..

Please comment.

Regards,
Andrei
