Hi all, There's a Polycom team looking into adding Plug & Play support for their KWS 300/6000 products. Things should work well, but there's one requirement that I'm not sure how we're going to accommodate.
The Polycom KWS 300/6000 is a DECT wireless solution with a SIP interface. Similar to an FXS Gateway, it appears to the call server as a series of SIP UACs. I think FXS Gateway should be used as a model for this Plug & Play work. But one difference is that configuration of each "Line" (handset) requires an International Portable Equipment Identity (IPEI) parameter. This is a 12 digit number that uniquely identifies the DECT handset. I understand that the Plug & Play framework does facilitate per-Line Phone parameters. In order to configure these you must first select a User and add the Line to the Phone, then select the just-added Line from the list, then select the sub-category to access the parameter. Along the way you pass a screen that says "Normally you should not have to alter any settings to make or receive calls..." For the Polycom KWS 300/6000, this generalization does not fit. You need to configure the IPEI in order to make or receive calls. I think we have a requirement to allow the installer to specify the IPEI value while the Line is being added. i.e. At the same time that the User for the Line is selected. The fact that a single KWS 6000 system can support thousands of handsets is additional incentive to streamline the workflow of adding each Line. Does the Plug & Play framework currently allow this? If not, are there any ideas on how to achieve it? (At some point I'll also ask about how we could provision all the Lines of a single KWS 300/6000 via CSV Import. But, let's start with the basics first.) Thanks. -Paul [EMAIL PROTECTED]
