Hi Tony,

> I have noticed issues in doing what I call a consultative transfer
> with Bootrom 4.0-4.1x and firmware 3.0-3.1x. I consider a
> consultative transfer answering a call, hitting the transfer
> button and dialing the target user station, speaking with them or
> waiting for their voicemail to pickup and then hitting "send" to
> complete the transfer.

Yes, that is a Consultative transfer.

It would be an Attended transfer if, while the target is ringing, you
either hang up or hit "Trnsfr" again. This works OK only if the target
eventually answers the call. If not, the transferee gets fast busy,
instead of voicemail (XTRN-229.)

XCF-2981 hides the "Trnsfr" softkey while the target is ringing.
Unfortunately we can't prevent the user from hanging up before the
target answers, which results in an Attended transfer, and possibly
XTRN-229.

> I am trying to understand if this is expected behavior or if there
> is a way to fix it, short of only using hold/dial the target/blind
> transfer, which is not a very effective use of button pushing.

I'm not really sure why the Attended transfer problem XTRN-229 occurs.
But, I'll try to find out from Polycom if we can change anything in
sipXecs to make it work.

Also, XCF-2989 would help avoid the problem. (With Blind Transfer as
the default, the user will be less likely to follow a sequence that
leads to an Attended transfer.)

In the meantime, try this sequence of button presses to invoke a Blind
Transfer: With a call established, "Trnsfr" softkey -> "Blind" softkey
-> dial the target. The nice thing here is that after you press the
"Trnsfr" softkey it becomes the "Blind" softkey, so you can just press
the same button twice. It is a much quicker way to invoke Blind
Transfers.

> In any case, XCF-2981 aims to disable attended transfer. Under the
> assumptions I have above, is this what it actually aims to do?

The primary patch (XCF-2981-DisablePolycomAttendedTransfer.patch) simply
hides the "Trnsfr" softkey while the target is ringing during a
Consultative transfer. There is second patch (xcf-2981-2.patch) that
fixes an unrelated problem which just happened to pop up during testing
of the primary patch.
