Regarding the other problem, when openfire was running, but you couldn't
register a user, my suspicion is that somehow, openfire symbolic links that
we create during setup got broken (check in /opt/openfire /opt/openfire/lib
and in /opt/openfire/plugins)

The workaround you applied (delete openfire db) forced the setup to be run
again at openfire service start, including creation of symbolic links and
fixed the user registration problem

Can you please detail the steps you followed before finding out that you
cannot register users, and verify if symbolic links got broken in this case.
We had a discussion and we are thinking that we should recreate symbolic
links always, when openfire starts (not only at first setup), but first we
need to know the steps that reproduced the problem (I was able to reproduce
it on a development machine, making a fresh install)

Thanks,
Mircea
