I have been troubleshooting a problem we were having with
high CPU on our 4.2 sipxecs. We recently upgraded our
server from 4.0.4 successfully, and all was well at first.
A couple of weeks later, we upgraded our polycom firmware
from 3.1.3c to 3.2.3.(Polycom 550s and 330s) This caused
the CPU to rise and hold at 20% at first then 30% a couple
of weeks later. We are running an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650
3.0 Ghz processor.(overkill for our 24 phone system) We had
also made a couple of other system changes at the same time
as the firmware change. We removed the SBC and installed a
standalone freeswitch server. We also turned on the shared
line feature for one line configured on 10 phones. Having
said that, we did have that line configured as "shared" in
the 4.0.4 system before we upgraded. This "shared" setting
was still lingering in the phone.cfg files. I removed the
shared feature and all of the users and phones and imported
a fresh CSV file then regenerated all of the configs. This
did remove the shared setting but did not fix the CPU
problem. Only after I downgraded the phones to 3.1.3c did
the CPU come back down. See the image below and you can
definitely tell when the firmware was upgraded then
downgraded. Don't mind the outage we had for 3 days during
week 20, this was due to a power outage.

I did go back and upgrade the firmware on only one phone to
see if this impacted the CPU and it did take the average up
a noticeable 2%. Call processing has not been affected at
any point during all of this. It only concerns me because
we are using this same firmware at another site that is
running 124 phones with the same hardware. It was a 4.2
from scratch build though, not an upgrade. Their CPU
averages 8% idle and 15%-25% during high call volume.
(600-1200 calls a day)

Also, we are using ACD at the larger sight and they are
having the issue that Polycom is aware of that causes the
phone to blurp when it gets 3 invites before it can respond
and reply's with a 400 message. This makes the phones in
the Queue make this sound sequentially as the ACD tries to
extend the call to each agent in a circular pattern. It
continues to go around the room until it finally rings on a
phone.

Any ideas on which firmware we should be implementing on the
new 4.2. I know 3.1.3c was the suggested firmware for
4.0.4. However, it has a known issue when using
consultative transfer on a Polycom 650 with 2 sidecars. The
phone reboots.

Thanks in advance for any help.
