alright, I did say I was stupid, right?
I edited /etc/sysconfig/system-config-securitylevel and put that in
below (ips changed of course)
do /etc/init.d/iptables start
then ./status
and get:
Firewall is stopped.
iptables --list
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target prot opt source destination
on freebsd I would just do a force start. and/or edit /etc/rc.conf(.local)
