Okay, turns out the ifcfg-eth0 settings didn't include the system's own DNS 
server. It might be useful to make sipxecs-setup-system add entries there if 
you tell it you want this machine to be your DNS. The list of DNS servers you 
have to enter is worded like that's only external ones, not the local one.

In the standard configuration, the DNS server on sipX is caching-only.  So no 
external element (including phones) should be contacting it for DNS 
information.  External elements should be pointed to the DNS infrastructure of 
the containing LAN.
