In my 4.6 I don't have it turned on but my config file is set for:
<IM-message-logging>false</IM-message-logging><IM-message-logging-directory>/var/log/sipxpbx</IM-message-logging-directory> I made this change manually and did a cli restart of openfire (service openfire restart). The file is now present. Sounds like a JIRA.
