Maybe, but I don't think so. I was referring to the build.  What I saw that 
was broken is that lvm tries to link against libdevmapper.so.1.00. But, the 
makefile/configure script doesn't create the link.  It only creates 
libdevmapper.so sans version number.

I stared at the configure/make for about a half hour last night and couldn't 
figure out how to coerce it into creating the link.  There's code that looks 
like it should do it, but it isn't executed.  I decided to just patch 
the .rul file for lvm to create the link.

I think the only way that the bug you mention could be related is that because 
of the missing symlink a "successful" build with the current HEAD would get 
libdevmapper.so.1.00  from the build host distro, which might have some 
version skew from our source.  The devmapper version number is actually 
longer than 1.00.

Then again, you're also getting mismatched .so files for many other things 
built from source like e2fsprogs, xfsprogs, reiserfs, etc.  Version skew in 
any of those might be the culprit in this bug as well.
