Dan, I believe it is simply a matter of si_pushupdate being a bit out of date. It was stable at one point, but then other code moved forward, and it wasn't brought forward at the same time.
If you can provide patches to fix/improve it, that would be great. More small simple patches are better than fewer large complicated ones. Just email the patches to this list.
