Title: RE: [Sisuite-users] New SATA/SCSI/e1000/bcm5700 kernel out
The development version of SystemImager does use 2.6 kernel, I am trying to get that going as well.

I might be able to do something 'creative' with the autoinstall script to get around the hda/sda issue.

Thanks for your help - the kernel you have built is very useful as it is!

Cheers,

Bernard

I am using the latest libata patch for 2.4.25.  If it picks it up as /dev/hda instead of /dev/sda then there is nothing we can do.  Unless you are a kernel hacker, of course.  The only real solution is to nudge the SI guys into moving to a newer 2.4 or 2.6 kernel.  Seeing as how 3.4.1 just got released I think it is unlikely :|

If you have 2 of the same machines you can try booting with rescue discs on both and copy the partition with netcat:

boot with IP address, something like:
dd if=/dev/sda | nc -l 12345

nc 1.2.3.4 -p 12345 | dd of=/dev/sda

The fedora core rescue cd would work well for this purpose.

P

Hey Peter:

I got a SATA_SIL 3112 adapter and for whatever reason the HD connected
to it is being picked up as hda with the 2.4.25 kernel.  2.6 kernel
correctly recognizes it as sda (which I want).  I have heard that newer
versions of 2.4 kernel has this fix too, I tried building it but the
node always hang when it boots off the SIS kernel.  I guess I'll keep
trying...

Cheers,

Bernard
