Yup, it should be as simple as modifying patches/linux.i386.config to
include the drivers and re-compiling.  I am not positive whether the
libata patches are still required for 2.6 kernel (though they are still
available).

On a related note, UseYourOwnKernel.pm sort of works - it takes the
kernel from your OS and generates an initrd.img which is compatible with
SystemImager and you simply use that to boot your machines.
