Well, what I finally did was in easy steps.
Scenario. Redhat with System Imager Server 3.4.1 (stable).
Client xSeries IBM Machine with qlogic storage. For qlogic drivers I
use I needed the kernel 2.6 version.
I'm struggling with what should be the simplest case here - I just want
to add support for the 3w-9xxx module to my 3.4.1 systemimager kernel.
I grabbed the kernel source and was surprised to find no .config file.
I ran a make oldconfig and the make menuconfig, but 3w-9xxx isn't an
option. I have found the source files for the module for 2.4.21, but
don't see how to get it compiled now :(
I also attempted to mount the initrd.img thinking once I got the module
build I'd drop it in, but that failed with an error suggesting i have a
the wrong fstype (i tried ext2 and ext3) or too many mounts (no not
believe this is true). So I have kind of hit a wall.
Is there an HOWTO on adding new modules, or does anyone have a
kernel/initrd with 3w-9xxx support?
thanks
charles
