I am using Ubuntu(Dapper Drake) currently.  The package version that comes with Ubuntu(Dapper Drake) is 3.2.3-3.
I looked at the latest Ubuntu release(Edgy Eft) and it contains the same systemimager package version.
I do not have a /etc/systemimager/boot/ directory on my golden client.
I used the command 'prepareclient --server 172.30.36.194'

I have a feeling that the problem is a combination of an old version of systemimager with brand new laptop hardware.

Do I have any other options?  Will there be a new release for Debian/Ubuntu soon or should I look into another imaging solution for now?

Wait... maybe I've not understood well.... are you tring to use the
kernel and initrd from /boot/ to autoinstall? The correct
kernel+initrd.img that must be used to autoinstall, if you want to use
UYOK, are in /etc/systemimager/boot on your golden client (after you run
si_prepareclient). For more details:
