Actually, check your ssh config. More than likely, it doesn't allow root
access.
vi /etc/ssh/sshd_config and check for allow_root_access or something
close
to that. Most security setup for ssh now doesn't allow root direct
access.

Well, I think it is a bug on the rsync version I have, I did the same
thing using the same conf on a Debian stable and it works.
On Redhat 4u6 it gives me the problem.
