Site of the Day for Wednesday, July 24, 2001 Hurricane and Storm Tracking "The StormTrack system receives weather data from the US National Weather Service via satellite. The system creates an entry for each tropical depression, storm, or hurricane when the National Weather Service begins issuing advisories." - from the website The site includes a scholarly article from the University of Colorado which concludes that "conditions affecting hurricane activity now indicate above average activity during 2001". Of additional interest is the historical storm information in the 'Atlantic Hurricane Archive' including position, wind speed and pressure data of hurricanes from the early twentieth century, as well as the graphic models of these storms. This is a serious site devoted to the publication of data - straight from the horse's mouth, or in this case from the US National Weather Service. When you need plain, unembellished information about a developing weather incident likely to reach the U.S. coast, this site will provide the data you need. http://hurricane.terrapin.com/ A.M.
