One of the features that I like about Pages.app is that if you select
some text and then Insert Comment, a very nice comment box appears
nearby for your clever remarks. A cool feature is that the initially
selected text and the associated comment box are visually connected
with an unobtrusive thin yellow line so that it is easy to see which
comment connects to which selected text.

FWIW, it turns out that if you first select a graphic object such as
a line and then Insert Comment, the same things happen, but with the
thin yellow line connected from the comment box to the object. If you
move the object on the page, the comment box follows the movement so
that it is as nearly horizontal from the object considering that
there may be other comment boxes. For Skim, this sounds like overkill
and probably a manually movable comment box is better, so that it can
be placed anywhere on the page. (Pages.app places comments in a
special area off the printed page, at least as displayed on-screen--
when printed, the comments appear on the printed page.)
