Just displaying the notes or adding them to a search index is pretty
easy, but there are some subtleties with extended attributes. For
instance, you'd have to keep a checksum of the EA data itself if you
use a persistent search index, which I assume is what DT does.
BibDesk sidesteps this by rebuilding the index whenever a database is
opened, and observing Skim's save notifications for updates.
Thanks for the explanation concerning things beyond me. Your comments
concerning BibDesk are interesting. I understood Papers were thinking
of integration with Skim, and of course Michael Tsai was ahead of the
game, saw the need and seems to have done a good job with Skim and
EagleFiler. So at least for those of us who don't understand these
things, DEVONthink's apparent lack of response remains disappointing.
