Thanks a lot for the reply and sorry for my late reply. As you had suggested
it was something to do with accessibility. For some reason unknown to me,
the accessibility was active on my machine. I turned it off and Skim is as
robust as a rock. I really love it and it is part of my daily (and nightly)
workflow of writing my thesis.
