It's stated on the Wiki that the values range from 0 to 1, not 0 to 255 or 
something else.

Remember that this is a HIDDEN pref. Which means that it is an advanced feature 
that is not supposed to be easy or even not guaranteed to be supported (as the 
Wiki also clearly states).

It's not in the initial defaults because by defaults it's not set. This is 
because by default NOTHING is drawn. This has been discussed on this list.
