Since I do mostly reviewing work with Skim and don’t want to loose the point
from which I have to work further, I get rid of the grey blanks doing a
Shift+CMD+i on both windows = view status line - switch between the windows
with CMD+^.
Not ideal, but it works, and no mouse is required.
