A loaded document still had a white background. What I used was:
defaults write net.sourceforge.skim-app.skim SKPageBackgroundColor -array -float 1 -float 1 -float 0.53333 I have no idea how to use Applescript. How do you specify the application it is to control? How is the background colour for all documents to be opened by that application controlled?
