I can report that I see the same behaviour (Skim 1.4.12 (86) and 10.10.3).
To clarify:
1. On "Single page" mode, when the pdf is fit to the window (i.e. not
zoomed), the Up/Down keys page through pages in the expected direction
* In the same mode/view, PgUp/PgDown are reversed.
* Again in the same mode/view, Space/Shift-Space (as page-up/page-down)
are reversed
* If I zoom in, so the view does not include the whole pdf, now all
three options (Up/Down, PageUp/PageDown, Space/Shift-Space) go the wrong way
2. On "Single page Continuous mode", all keys behave as expected.
3. On "Two page" mode, the behaviour is the same as "Single page" mode
(i.e. only Up/Down keys work when view is entire pdf, otherwise all are
reversed.
4. On "Two page Continuous" mode, all keys behave as expected.
Given that the keys work correctly in one mode (continuous), and not in the
other (non-continuous), it seems like the work-around is being applied
inconsistently to the different modes (this coming from someone who has
very little working knowledge of how these function behind the scenes with
Apple's PDFKit). Is there some way to implement a build test to check for
the correct behaviour, or at least a manual test of the above items after
build (I don't know if the behaviour shows up in older versions of OSX as I
have only 10.10.3 installed)?
As for the issue of workarounds, and it being Apple's bug, it seems like
it's a bit of a moot point. I assume the bug has been filed with Apple (I
would do it again myself, but I don't know the details of PDFKit enough to
properly report what is actually happening here), but since the issue does
not appear in Preview (or Adobe as far as I know) the problem is unique to
Skim. That means either settling for software that does not work as
expected (until, perhaps, maybe Apple fixes something, or not), or finding
and implementing a solution. I don't have too many skills for software
development and building (mostly scientific programming), but I'd be happy
to help out however I can.
Aside from these (relatively recent) issues, I have loved Skim for years
and used it exclusively for pdf viewing/latex integration (which consists
of 75% of my daily computer interaction). I appreciate everything you and
the Skim team have done, and would love to see it back in a state that it
doesn't respond in the opposite way to what I tell it to do :).
Thanks,
Clark
