I take interest in the issue of multitasking in Skype calls. I think it's rude to multitask during a serious conversation, Skype or otherwise. But I know of at least two ways Skype voice connections are used: like a telephone, where you call to talk, and like an enlarged room, where you're connected to be together whether you're talking or not. I've seen occasional problems between people springing from a misunderstanding as to which mode of connection was in effect at a given time. Personally, I do a lot of the latter, because I'm so often busy with this task or that, that it's sometimes the best way for me to stay in touch with people. But it's a fairly new concept in the world of telecommunication, because until Skype and other similar free audio connections, it was quite impractical. Some would still argue it is a strange way to use the Internet. I even saw one guy refer to it as "abusive" of the Internet. I respectfully disagree with that one. <grin>
In any case, it's nice to know ahead of time what someone is ok with, because miscommunication, even if by untimely silence, is sure no fun at all. I don't care for people who just add for the sake of adding, just so they can say they have 190 something contacts on their list. if i've never talked to or heard of someone, i won't usually add them. I added someone i've never talked to, because i thought he was on the list, but not sure if i've seenany of his posts here. I'm not much of a multitasker, and I don't multitak while i'm talking to someone, because if you are all di stracted and aren't really with the person, it seems rather rude to me, so if someone calls me, then gets to heavily in to multitaking i have to prod him or her to talk, we soon part waves, and i will mostl likely remove him or her from my skype list.
