Hi Doug and list!
I've changed the subject line to more accurately reflect the turn this thread
has taken and the nature of content included.
Your points are well taken. I generally delete things right away after any call
because except for important meetings that I need recorded for my own use, I
don't want the stuff taking up space on my drive.
The call burner web site does indicate that voicemails are recorded, but I
could find nothing in the programmes settings that would seem to adjust call
burner specifically on the voicemail issue. The page does say that it converts
voicemail to wav or mp3, and there is a place in the programme's configuration
to select the format you want used, but that is about as close to a match as I
can find.
While on the subject of call burner, I think it is appropriate to correct some
misleading information someone gave on this list. Sometimes, I know that it is
unavoidable, but I do wish people would take better care before dispensing
advice to check and make sure the advice they are going to give is documented
somewhere. I've already forgot who gave this eroneous advice, but it is neither
the person nor the advice that matters here--only the principle that the
information wasn't correct nor accurate. Don't worry, I have check this out
so I know what I'm about to say is valid In fact, I've taken it directly from
the call burner site:
a.. CallBurner is free to install.
a.. Recording Skype-to-Skype calls with other CallBurner users is completely
free of charge. There are no time limits or other limitations.
Recording calls with non-CallBurner users, as well as SkypeOut and SkypeIn
calls, is free for 14 days then requires a full CallBurner license
Recording of Conference Calls is free as long as at least one party to the call
(other than yourself) is running CallBurner.

If I understand Call Burner correctly, and I might not, it will record
what you tell it to. If you tell it to record every conversation, it
will record every conversation. That, however, raises a few moral and
legal questions that I'm sure I don't need to point out. I think this
conversation started out with a question about how to get voicemail
into another format. I don't think Call Burner is made for recording
voicemail, though I suppose if it can actually answer calls like
Pamela can, it could do that. I urge caution, though, in using Call
Burner to record things, lest you record more than intended and open
up quite a can of worms unrelated to voicemail.

Hi James and list!
Thanks for jogging my enquiring mind. I have call burner, registered, not
just the free one. I thought I remembered something about voicemail in there so
I did some experimenting. I left a voicemail to myself. I know I did it because
I did it from my phone while sitting in front of my computer. Just as a matter
of information, the scripts served me well, announcing each step of the process
as it happened. That is, the incoming call was announced. When I finished
leaving the voicemail and hung up my phone, Skypewatch told me that my
telephone number had just sent me voicemail. Three cheers for Skypewatch.
Anyway, then I went looking for the voicemail. No problem finding it in the
history tab of Skype, but we know that isn't in a format we can't use, so went
into call burner. No problem finding the conversation in the conversations
folder. As you say, all are listed by time. In that folder, the only thing that
is there is this stupid e4.ini file which tends to be there in any c
onversation folder. Normally, in the case of conversations, there will also
be another file in the folder that will be named something like recording of
call from John or recording of call to phone number. When I opened the e4.ini
file in this particular folder, , it didn't appear that there was anything in
it.
Looked in the voicemailCache folder and had no problem finding my number, but
it was only an .ini file that appeared to have nothing in it.
Maybe I need to turn on some option in call burner to make this work right.
I'm not sure because while that programme's distributor is quite responsive to
user suggestions, it still has not the handiest application to get around in.
Will do some more investigating on this.
Cheers,
Dave

Hello List!
When you have Call Burner installed and running in Skype, all of the
conversations between contacts or phone calls are recorded and, even voice
mail, are saved in the "Call Burner" folder, which is in my My Documents
Folder. They are all listed by date and time. As far as i can see, all of
them are here and they only record the audible message. I've even sent them to
the person who was speaking with me, a song, and it is good MP3 quality. I
would imagine the same would be true of Pamela and the others; however, I am
not sure about Total Recorder, but total recorder recordings are stored in a my
music or a designated TR folder.
Hopes this helps.
