Hi for perspective it is about the same amount of work to get skype watch
working in jaws. One advantage is while you are trying to get the access to
the skype api you cannot make an error that will render your screen reader
useless. Please note this is not a slur on Doug. I love the skype scripts
for jaws don't get me wrong but there are advantages to this method window
eyes is using. And quite frankly the way jaws handles global scripts sucks.

skype.

Hi Doug and list!

I'm glad you did it the way you did it. It may be great to get into the
Skype API as other programmes like Call burner and the Actiontek phone
wizard do. In my experience, the permission dialogue doesn't speak as
reliably as it should when it pops up, so knowing I don't have to look for
that or work through it seems like a good thing to me.

Cheers,
Dave

using skype.

Oops, sorry if I seemed confrontational somehow there. I was just
explaining to anyone who did not know, or remember, why I didn't do
this in JAWS. It's a natural thing to wonder.

Hi Doug we spoke on this subject some time ago.
I understand why you did things the way you did and have no disagreement
with it at all trust me. You are four times or maybe five times the
scripter I am and so I would not even dear to disagree with you even if I
did witch I do not. Window eyes does not have this problem. However and
it
is using vb script to access the information. Also I have no idea if a
sounder could be included however I do know the Miranda skype plug in
knows
when someone is typing and when they have stopped doing so.
Also another note is this. if ensted of seeing wecom in the manage
program
access to skype you see wineyes.exe this is ok just tell it to allow
access
  to skype.

using

I don't think the Skype API provides the info necessary to implement a
typing sounder. The Skype API is consistent across Skype versions,
but it does not provide everything. It should be possible to script
  for previous message review though.

Btw, I did not use the Skype API in the JAWS scripts because of a
rather interesting problem: If you lock your computer with Windows+L
or Alt+Ctrl+Delete, or if it locks by itself due to a screen saver,
and you're running JAWS scripts that use the Skype API via the
Skype4COM wrapper, JAWS will not realize that the screen has changed
and will continue to tell you that you are in whatever application you
were in before the lock. If that application happened to be Internet
Explorer, JAWS will continually try to get hold of the IE Document
Object Model every time you press a key and will treat your key
presses as JAWS Quick Keys, as it normally would in IE.
Unfortunately, the attempts to get the IE DOM object cause major
delays, and the upshot of all this is that JAWS will become terribly
unresponsive, like waiting some ten seconds to announce each key
press. You would thus have a very difficult time figuring out that
your computer is locked, you need to type a password, Quick Keys are
enabled, and you have to type JAWSKey+Z, then your password, then
Enter, to get your computer back. Needless to say, I don't consider
this an acceptable scenario to foist upon the unsuspecting user of
  Skype scripts. <grin>

  Hello,
As everyone now knows the window eyes beta 1 for 7.0 was released
yesterday.
There is now scripting support for that beta. There is now a skype script
that uses the skype API to get access to the information from skype.
This has a number of advantages. The API calls will not change very much
from version to version. So no matter what happens with the user
interface
the window eyes scripts will not have to be reworked every time skype
changes something. More information can be provided that is not provided
threw the tray alerts. For example window-eyes will tell you when a user
has signed out what the on line status is etc.
The only problem is that you have to do two things to get this to work.
First you must install the skype extras manager. This is the default when
installing skype. If you don't have this installed you will get a nasty
little error message from window-eyes about a vb script run time error. If
this happens run the skype setup again. Click the options button and then
tab over to install extras manager. Check this box and go ahead with the
install like you normally would. Now if you should go in to the advanced
section of option never ever ever disable the check box that reads
  automatically start extras manager.
Now when skype starts it should ask if you want to allow wecom to access
skype. Select always and press enter.
If this does not happen you will not get an error from window-eyes any
more
but it will not be able to access the skype API.
So now we will need to tell skype to do this.
To do this open the skype main window. Press alt t for toos and arrow up
to
  options.
  Press enter here.
Now arrow down in the tree tell you find advanced. Ok now tab over to
manage programs access to skype. Press space bar.
Now you will be in the list of programs that have requested skype access.
Now there is a problem with tracking this list gw micro is already aware
of
this problem and they assure me they are looking in to it. So now what
you need to do is press ensert pluss. This will route the mouse to the
list
box. Now you need to press ensert page up tell you here wecom. Press the
slash key to click on this option.
If a dialog comes up asking question about wecom like should it be run
hidden etc press escape. Now tab over to change and select the option in
the list that says allow this program to access skype. Click ok click ok
  again and click save.
Now you will have all the support you need from the skype scripts.
Anything you want to see added to the scripts for skype send them to
  suppot at gwmicro.com.
  Hope this information is helpful.
p.s one thing I would love to see is message review. Meaning the ability
to
pres a key and see the ten most recent messages.
A typing sounder would also be nice indention to hearing the spoken
message. Note we will not luse this in beta four with window eyes because
the api will still provide this information.
